A Black Swan. I could have used any number of disasters here… Take a gander at this TV Show List, another list, and a FEMA list. Let my imagination run a little bit wild; I don’t know if there’s even a fault line on the International Date Line.

The main thrust is that no matter how we prepare for disasters, a black swan event could happen. My take? If it happens, then it happens. Just deal with it the best one can. For example, millions of people live in Los Angeles and San Francisco, despite the well known fact that an earthquake disaster could happen there. Just enjoy life wherever you are, and if a disaster happens, deal with it the best you can. If not, help others who may have had the terrible misfortune of being ensnared in a disaster.

Also, despite having a choice in a wide variety of potential disasters, I settled upon in using the Pacific Ocean Tsunami disaster scenario for the purposes of this story. This disaster has the ability to affect several countries at once, those that ring the entire Pacific Ocean. I wanted this disaster to ‘segue’ into a financial disaster, as these affected countries draw upon their U.S. Treasury reserves to rebuild themselves, with disastrous consequences. Makes for gripping storytelling, eh?
